The increasing reliance on computers and outsourced labour will place more students in thinking, problem solving jobs. It is also getting increasingly important for a student to judge fact from fiction. Sciences train us to be discerning, to question and to look for evidence, and so prepares us well for this.
In Singapore, science also allow us more choices in schools and careers. It is more difficult for an arts student to move into the sciences and engineering, while it is easier for a science student to move the other way. A student confident in science is also likely to enjoy it more, resulting in better grades.
The Study Room employs a three pronged approach in educating a child in science. Engagement, through fun activities and games; motivate with more challenging but interesting material; and teaching more than what schools cover.
