Think before you speak

Always, always think through what you are going to say before speaking.

You may not be fluent in the language. It’s OK to have a few seconds of dead air to contemplate your answer. We are not having a radio show so the few seconds of silence is fine. This is better than saying the wrong things.

In this clip (click here), this guy is attempting to do a self-introduction. Out of nervousness and probably a lack of the use of the Chinese language, he said “我是打篮球。"(I am Play Basketball)

He could have said: 我爱大蓝球。I love playing basketball.
It’s easy but it could happen to you and me in front of the camera or examiner.

So remember to keep calm and process your thoughts.
