Question: It’s the end of my primary school life. I am worried and scared. PSLE results are out next week, I don’t know which secondary school I will go to and if I will have good friends like I did in primary school or if I can cope with the school work. My life is going downhill. Answer: Firstly, don’t be a drama mama. *slap* Secondly, good luck for your results next week! (For those who don’t know, it’s out on 21st Nov.) Thirdly, you will work out how to survive in secondary school soon enough. Lastly, be thankful you have good friends in primary school that you will miss. Some friends may come and go, others may stay and be by your side through thick and thin. Regardless, they are an integral part of our growth. Not to worry, you will definitely make new friends in secondary school and have fabulous memories with them. At the same time, while you miss your primary school friends, don’t just miss them. Make an effort to keep in touch. Besides meeting up, send occasional messages to find out how they are doing and offer support when they need it. In this fast-paced society, we don’t have the luxury to meet our friends every day but we don’t need to. Keep them in your mind, ask them how they are once in a blue moon and when you meet, it will be like you have never separated. Trust me, I know. The photo is of my primary school friends and me. (Actually we were in the same kindergarten class too!) Truth be told, I had lost touch with them for a couple of decades before reacquainting again in 2011 after I returned to Singapore. We caught up with one another’s life quickly and it’s like we have never lost touch. In fact, the two girls in the picture had remained in close contact even after going to different schools post-PSLE. Thus, it’s possible. Don’t worry about missing your friends. Enjoy your graduation and create new memories. The best is yet to come! #thurswithwei #psle #graduation #friendship
