Humpty-Dumpty Syndrome

How does this kid look?

Yes, the head is not proportional to the rest of the body. I bet he’s more endearing if the size of the head is reduced.

It’s the same for composition-writing.

Sometimes, we may get excited and write a super long introduction. By the time we realize it, there’s only 10 minutes for the rest of the story. In the end, our introduction takes up 70 percent of the essay, the body accounts for 20 percent and we have a lousy conclusion.

When writing, remember to divide your story carefully. An introduction is important as it’s the first impression you give to the reader but it shouldn’t take up the bulk of the story.

One way to resolve this is to write outlines for compositions. When you have planned your story, such a “humpty dumpty” situation is less likely to happen.
