Science tip:
Words like "populations", "community", "consumers" and "producers" are specific scientific terms in biology and PSLE Science. Although we don’t use these terms if we’re not an ecologist, it is important to learn these in order to ace your Science exam.
Population: a group of plants and animals of the same kind, living and producing at a given place and time.
Community: many populations living together in a particular place.
Consumer: An organism that generally obtains food by feeding on other organisms or organic matter due to lack of the ability to manufacture own food from inorganic sources
In the attached question:
– Susan is wrong because to count as a population, more than 1 organism of the same kind has to be there. There are maybe 2 populations there (bird+egg, 2 ferns).
– Ravi is correct.
– Tom is wrong because the fern is a producer.
– Alan is wrong because only living things make up the community.
So the answer is (1).
