During, For, and Since – When to use what?

English tip:

Many students are confused when to use "during", "for", and "since". Let’s learn this today- it would be useful for cloze passages and your compositions.

FOR

We use "for" when we explain the number of hours, days, months, etc.

For example:
I am going to the supermarket for half an hour.
Mary is going to New York for a holiday for ten days.
David has worked in this company for six months.

SINCE

We use "since" to describe when something started. We use perfect tense with "since".

For example:
I have lived in Singapore since 1990.
I have been waiting for you for hours.

DURING

We use "during" with nouns.

For example:
I was with Mary during the robbery.
