As we get caught in the PSLE frenzy, it’s easy to lose sense of the bigger picture and overlook why we are studying.
PSLE grades are important to get into the secondary school of our dreams. But let’s not forget that we are studying because we want to be educated, to be able to communicate with others, to understand logic and the world.
I used to watch “Boy Meets World” as a teenager and love the teacher in the show, Mr Feeny. He often dispenses great advice- this was one of them.
“Education is not about obscure facts and little test scores. Education is about the overall effects of years of slow absorption. Concepts, philosophies, approaches to problem solving. The whole process is so grand and all-encompassing that it really can’t be threatened by the occasional late-night no-hitter.”
