Q: How do I prepare my Primary 1 child for comprehension?
Ans: In my Primary 1 class, I read a two-paragraph story to my students and explain it to them. I teach them how to find the key message in the passage.
Then I will split the class into two teams. I will ask them questions from the passage to evaluate how much they understand. Sometimes, I formulate true/false and sequencing questions as these are part of the new PSLE curriculum.
I make them fun and verbal so the goal of training them to understand what they read is achieved. When they reach Primary 3 or 4 where comprehension is a huge component of the paper, it would be a breeze for them.
You can try this at home too. Or just register for my class!
