The following question is on heat for P4 and P5 students.
Look at the picture. Wallace conducted an experiment with the apparatus. He placed a glass bottle with a deflated balloon into a basin of hot water. The balloon became inflated.
Q: Why is the balloon inflated? (1 mark)
Whenever you’re stuck on “Explain” questions involving heat, think of using the keywords “gain heat” or “lose heat”. When coupled with expansion or contraction of matter, use the keywords “gain heat and expand” or “lose heat and contract”.
This is an example of heat causing the expansion of air. When constructing the answer, see that something is gaining heat and expanding.
What is it? It is the air inside the glass bottle. So the answer is simply:
“The air in the glass bottle gains heat from the hot water and expands, inflating the balloon.” via Facebook Pages http://ift.tt/2cv2DY1
